There is still no replacement for displacement! Ford kept this in mind when they came out with their newly designed V8 5.0L Coyote engine in 2011 and this engine has quickly gained popularity throughout the industry. This engine is manufactured in the same Windsor plant as the 4.6/5.4L engine it replaced in the F-150 trucks in 2011. The 5.0L engine is close to the same physical size of the outgoing 4.6, and shares other specifications with it such as bore spacing, deck height, bell housing bolt pattern, head bolt pattern, main journal size, etc. in order for the engine to utilize existing Modular production line tooling, therefore 5.0L engine also falls into the Modular family. This engine is an all aluminum 32-valve (4 valve) DOHC V-8 engine that features Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) providing improved power and fuel economy. Ford has also developed 4 different styles of this engine featuring different camshafts and cylinder heads for increase compression and power depending on applications.

With a 3.63 inch bore and 3.65 inch stroke, the engine features a nearly square bore-stroke ratio. The cylinder head intake port design is said to outflow those of a Ford GT. Originally introduced with 360 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque, the engine was upgraded with a more efficient cylinder head design and improved variable camshaft timing system, increasing peak engine output to 385 horsepower and 387 lb-ft of torque for the 2015 model year; the improved 5.0L V-8 coincided with Ford's release of the aluminum bodied F-150.
